How a Garage should Look!

Garage floor tiled like checkerboard

I was pretty sick of the ugly concrete garage floor I had, so I tiled it with Armstrong Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT). It's a commercial grade tile that you find in stores, hospitals, etc. Click either image for a closer look.

I considered an epoxy floor finish, but the disadvantages were:

  • Critical floor cleaning and preparation
  • Long cure time

I went with the VCT because:

  • I didn't want to spend 3-4 days cleaning, degreasing, etching, and rinsing the concrete floor
  • I couldn't leave my garage empty for a week waiting for paint to cure

With the Armstrong VCT, you give the floor a general cleaning, seal the cracks, and lay down the adhesive with a notched trowel. Then you just stick and roll your tiles until the floor is done. You can put everything back in your garage almost immediately.

Maintenance involves:

  • Sweeping with a large dust mop
  • Mopping with a no-rinse floor cleaner occasionally
  • Applying a no-buff finish once a year
